I would rather journey to Mordor than…

Navigate Google Support.

Recently, I found myself trapped in the unenviable circle of trying to regain access to an admin account. The circle that I was trapped in was a result of never receiving the verification e-mail to said account.

I couldn’t login, because I didn’t have a password. I couldn’t recover the password, because there was no previous password to verify the account was mine, and I couldn’t speak to support staff because they require you first login to the account to do so. A circle more vicious that the ring itself.

In the modern age of technology, everything has advanced towards an era of impatience.
I look to the past, and I see a world that was built to last. My mother, in fact, still has and uses a working toaster from before I was born. Meanwhile, I find myself needing new headphones every other month, and readily fork out whatever I need to get them.

When the internet was first introduced into my life, it took a solid 5 minutes to connect to it, and any website visited would take the same measure of time to load. The craziest thing about it? This was okay. This was the norm, and we readily accepted it. But as time has marched forward, immediacy became an epidemic. We now find ourselves ready to throw our computers out the window should our browser dare to take more than three seconds to load. I know, because this entire episode has really brought out the devilish orc in me.

Every time things get faster, they still aren’t fast enough. And the moment we get used to a new speed, things upgrade and we can no longer tolerate what we have. I look at the world around me, and I find myself among the many asking “When advancing the technology of our world forward, has anyone ever stopped to ask if we should? Are we ready?”

I hope among the dreamers out there, some like myself imagine a more patient tomorrow.
